Having spent a long career writing regular reviews, articles and columns, my intention on the lateralviews.uk site is to comment from time to time on issues relating to economics, current affairs, business and finance. I am no longer constrained by business guidelines or a compliance officer, or the requirement to write a specific number of words on a given day, and I will make no pretence at trying to provide a balanced view. I will simply write about what interests me, whenever I feel like it and in as many words as seems appropriate. Hopefully, if you get as far as reading my blog posts, you will find them interesting, sometimes provocative, but never unreasonable.
As well as commenting on matters of the day, my intention is also to set up a section called I don’t believe it. Too often, I hear claims made in the media by journalists, commentators or researchers that do not pass the smell test. Some of the claims are simply amusing, while others are misleading. So, in the IDBI section, I will try to highlight some of the more outrageous claims that are thrown at us.
